VoIP Questions
| Where did you get the FDX-840? | BT Broadband Voice supplied us with the FDX-840. | | How much did the FDX-840 cost? | It was supplied to us FREE OF CHARGE. | | How much bandwidth does a call use? | We have noticed that a 10min call uses around 28Mb (both up and down). |
| Do you have any images of the FDX-840? | Yes, you can find them
HERE. |
| Do you have the firmware for the FDX-840? |
Yes, you can find the firmware ZIP file
HERE. |
| What does the control panel look like? |
We have made a few pages on this site to show visitors
what this control panel looks like. You can find the control panel
HERE. |
| How much does it cost to use VoIP | We pay around £6 quid a month. | | Where about does your FDX-840 sit on your network? | As the FDX-840 is DHCP router, you can place it behind your ADSL or Cable Modem however, we prefer to placed it on the back of our Cisco Network Switch.
Click here to view where in
our network it sits. | | I am a CM User and own a Cisco AT-186, and it doesn't work very good. | Before the FDX-840 we owned a Cisco AT-186 and found it would fall over with our type of connection. This was the main reason for installing the FDX-840. Since we have installed this unit, it has never falling over or needed a power cycle. |
| Is VoIP better than a landline? | In my opinion the answer is YES. Why? because it's cheaper and you can control almost every aspect of your telephone communications system within the house or office. E.g. You can block any number you want, set up speed-dialling on the web and all your telephones are updated, you can re-route calls at a click on a button... all this is done via a control panel online. If however, your connection to the net goes down a lot, then so will your VoIP. You really need a very good connection which is stable. |
| Which phone do you recommend for
Landlines and VoIP | I was using two
analogue phones to start with however I am now using the
BT Converse 2025 phone. This phone takes two lines and to can swap
between them and also join calls together (aka Conference Calls). |
Web Site Questions
| How long did it take to design this website? | It took us around 8hrs to design the site until we were happy with the look and feel however, as any web designer out there knows... you are never 100% happy so we are always working on the site. | | What kind of technology do you use on your site? | At the moment, we use ASP, JavaScript, sharepoint and just plan old HTML. We do not and never will use Perl and CGI (Common Gateway Interface). | | I can't log on to the Administration Area, why not? | This area is for me only, for testing new pages, technologies and for general administration of the site. We have noticed some people just keep on trying to gain access to our admin pages at which point we block their IP addresses and add them to our IPSec. |
| How many files make up this site and what is the total size? | As of
2nd November 2006 we have a total of 76,561 files which takes up 2.56Gb of disk space.

£4600.00 pounds to build and to keep it running cost us around £1428 per
year. However, you have to remember that the server does a lot more than
display this website. | | I see you are ranked very high in Google, do you pay for that? | No, we do not pay or post links to Google or any other Search Web Sites. |
